Original Medicare is Medicare Part A and Part B. It was created in 1964 by the federal government to provide hospitalization and medical care for the disabled and senior citizens.
Typically individuals will take one of two Medicare paths. They will keep Original Medicare and add a Part D prescription drug plan and a Medicare Supplement. Or they will opt to get their Medicare benefits though a Medicare Advantage Plan which combines Part A, Part B and (usually) a Part D drug plan into a plan from a private insurance company.
Working and Medicare
